Homemade Breath Spray

My husband always thinks his breath stinks, so he likes breath fresheners, gum or sprays. He decided he wanted one without the chemicals, and that is where essential oils come in.

I made him a bottle of all natural breath spray. He loves it!!!!

I decided to use some wintergreen essential oil and some peppermint essential oil, since he likes both of them. I used a 2oz spray bottle, because that is what I had on hand. If you want it to last longer use distilled water, I didn't have any on hand so I just boiled some tap water to remove impurities and then let it cool.Next time I am at the store I plan on grabbing some distilled water for any other recipes I try though.

Homemade Breath Spray

1 tbsp water
3 drops peppermint essential oil
3 drops wintergreen essential oil

Add everything to the spray bottle and shake before using.

My husband wanted it stronger so I ended up adding another drop of peppermint to it, but I found it too strong that way. If you do want to add more, just be sure to only add 1 extra drop and try it, after each addition because it will get strong really fast since the oils are so concentrated.

Cracked Heel Cream

My husband gets horribly cracked heels, they get so bad that the skin splits and bleeds. When he walks barefoot across carpet it sounds like velcro being ripped up every time he lifts his foot and his socks get stuck in the cracks. It is extremely painful for him.

He has tried almost every lotion and cream on the market and nothing seems to help at all. So I decided to attempt to make him something that would help using my essential oils.

It worked!! These pictures were taken 3 weeks apart. He is still using it to continue the healing but this is a huge change for him. He is so excited and keeps asking me what I am going to make him next with the oils.

 

Amazing!!!

Here is the recipe I came up with.

Cracked Heel Cream

3/4 cup coconut oil

1/4 cup vitamin E oil 

12 drops melalueca(tea tree) essential oil

12 drops geranium essential oil

12 drops lavender essential oil

Whip everything together really well. Store in sealed jar.

The coconut oil I get at Costco, the vitamin E oil I bought on Amazon,and all my oils come from here. You can shop as a customer or sign up as a member to save some money.

Orange Essential Oil

I love orange essential oil!! It has so many uses.

10 Uses for Orange Essential Oils

1. Air Freshener: Air Freshener: Add 10 drops of each essential oil to your spray bottle: orange, clove, and cinnamon.  Fill with water.  Spray once or twice in each room of your home.
2. Anxiety: Place a drop on your palm and rub hands together. Cup your hands over your nose and inhale during stressful times.  If you are near your diffuser, throw a couple drops in to help calm your nerves.
3. Blues: Dealing with a bad mood you can shake?  Try diffusing essential oil. It is uplifting and helps get me centered.
4. Body Scrub: Try adding orange essential oil to your homemade body scrub. 
5. Digestion: Because orange essential oil has an anti-spasmodic effort, it’s great for dealing with occasional stomach cramps and can aid in regular digestion.  Apply with a carrier oil over the abdomen.
6. Disinfectant Spray:  Add 10 drops orange essential oil and 1/4 cup white vinegar to spray bottle. Fill with water.  Spray on door knobs and lightswitches at least once a week, more often if anyone is sick.
7. Furniture Polish: Try making a homemade furniture polish with 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup water, 1 Tbsp olive oil, and 10 drops orange essential oil. Store in a dark spray bottle and spray on a microfiber cloth, then wipe down your wooden furniture.
8. Immune Boosting: Diffusing orange essential oil can help increase your immune system’s ability to respond quickly and effectively.  This is especially important during the colder months.
9. Insecticide: Orange essential was used in a study to determine if it was a viable insecticide again a mealybug on grape vines.  It was toxic to the mealybug but not to the grape vines – sounds like a win/win to me!
10. Insomnia: I know this one sounds weird since orange is typically uplifting, but I’ve found adding a drop, along with Lavender and Peace & Calming, really helps me relax and fall asleep faster.

I have tried about half of them so far and my favourite so far is the orange with peppermint.

Loving My Oils!!

I have gone through my home over the last few months looking for chemicals and poisons to banish from our life. Not the known dangerous ones, although those had to leave too, but the less innocuous ones. The ones that are hiding in our cleaning supplies, personal care products and even our food!!
